CRIMSON STONE is a rock band formed in 2005. Bob (Guitars & Vocals) recorded some songs at his home studio the same year and they became the first demo: SATAN IS IN LOVE WITH STONER ROCK. When Fred (Bass & Backing Vocals) listened to those tracks, he told Bob: “Hey dude, it’s time to rock”. A few months later, Sam (drums) joined the band. In 2008 they edited their first long play: “From Hell They Came” which had very good reviews by the media.

Thalamus - Subterfurge (2011)

"After a great debut release in 2008, and some lineup changes since then, the Thalamus returned to release a new album in 2011, Labour won the name "Subterfurge" and has even showing up recently in our top list albums of 2011.

Here is the Thalamus band shows a much more willing to try new sounds have not yet visited by the band, on the first track on the disc, in the dark "Mary Blues Intro" we face a blues, as well as the name implies, the emphasis this track is the main vocal, very similar to the legendary leader of the grunge band Screaming Trees, Mark Lenagan. Since the matter came in grunge, the Thalamus explores a bit of style in the next track, "Bring Down Mary."

"When Gobblins Cheer" is the third track, and then the weight of seventies hard rock comes to the disk in a raw and intense band that surrounds a good beginning for the "Subterforge." That feeling once in a sacrament "Blind" and rhythm full of groove. After a good beginning is now time to see the profit in this case, a very hard compound. As in his first work, the Thalamus can make the best of the simple, unadorned but showing other jurisdiction in knowing how well it all in good songs".

Introducing SPARTAKIEV! A new four piece rock outfit from Holland and yet again not surprisingly so, yet another fine release from the Country that seems to keep breeding great and serious rock n roll outfits! I stumbled across this band whilst researching through the never ending gems over at Bandcamp.

Spartakiev whilst not playing anything new, surprise me with their incredibly glowing sounds that send me back to the late 90's to early 00's. Where Stoner rock was somewhat peaking and loads of great bands kept putting out amazing records! Spartakiev hail in this area think, the punk like vibes of Demoncleaner, The Rawness of early Dozer, Dern Rutlidge and the sometimes jazz, surf elements of Fatso Jetson and you have a pretty good feeling as to what you are getting yourself into.

This 6 track demo/ep depending on what intent it's for is a classy introduction record with enough swings to make you not get bored and enough grooves to keep you wanting more. Tracks like "One " Oozes that classic stoner feeling, we all came to dig and love with dozer like vocals and chunking bass lines and classic raw blues with enough bite to keep it on that nice heavy side yet not at all being too heavy. "Swing a Swung" heads down the muffled down tuned road and reminds me to some degree of the earlier desert sessions stuff that was done on, say volumes 1 & 2!

"Daemons", see's "Spartakiev" get down to business a truly kick ass song and a real eye opener to what this band is about! Vocals on this track are seriously nailed, the chorus is so catchy with spoken word like haunts and crushing punk styled riff layer behind it! Again nothing new, but the wheel sometimes doesn't need to be reinvented, to enjoy good old fashioned stoner rock and roll!

Thanks to its masculine riffs and brawny vocals, Brand New Sin could easily redefine Syracuse as a town that produces solid, blue-collar rock bands, as opposed to manufacturing samey moshcore. Brand New Sin, named after what the band describes as the "birth of something bad and the epitome of gluttony," formed when Godbelow wanted to go in a new direction. Got a really cool message from a new friend on Facebook (through "Porthole to Stoner Rock") saying that he really digs my little blog here!!! Thanx very much to Andrew & his Boyz. Since I pretty much have to put labels on things for TAG purposes around here, Andrew & his Boyz ROCK by the name of AMERICAN WITCH & they are to me an awesome train chuggin' Stoner/Sludge/Metal band that is a very catchy act to be reckoned with indeed!!! If you're a fan of Pantera,Down or C.O.C., but are more into the Hard-Rockin' & Riff Orientd stuff, then these guys are definately what you want & we just might be sticking to our "Stoner Vein". Buzzer is an Israeli Stoner Metal band, formed in 2005, they are considered the pioneers of the genre in their country.

In 2005 Greg formed the band as a trio and immediately started to work on a debut EP which was released later that year under the title of Got Me Wasted. Palm Desert - Discography

Palm Desert from Poland and there is no surprise to see such a talented band from that region. It has been sometime listening to a good Stoner doom with variety .
Ostensibly this is some sort of sludge/stoner/doom metal and superficially it bears a passing resemblance to many of the great sludge/stoner doom albums, but there are subtle differences. Palm Desert is far more heavier, both in sound and atmosphere. Franek's vocals flow very well with Jajo’s guitars and it is a great combination. The individual instruments congeal into a lumbering, lurching monster, monolithic in both heaviness and intensity. The drums pound; the bass drum is full, low and thick, while the crash and ride are near constantly ring-war drums. The drums usually take the last seat as they are bit monotonous for this music most of the time and same holds good here.

Coping with the Urban Coyote is the sole official release of Unida, the second post-Kyuss project featuring John Garcia, crunchier and more energetic than ever. What can you expect from a short lived band whose primary claim to fame is that the vocalist used to be in Kyuss? Unida delivers everything, especially riffs, they‘re fat, loud, and memorable. The Rhythm section is downright masterful, with some especially inspiring bass portions, and as for the voice of desert rock himself? If anything, Garcia’s voice has aged with style. In the 4 years since the breakup of Kyuss, he’s developed a fuller tone, with better expression and much more confidence. Tracks like “If Only Two”, and “Human Torpedo” feature a grittier, tougher Garcia, and a downright pounding rhythm.
The rhythm section delivers two downright monstrous performances in “If Only Two” and “You Wish”, and then a bunch of other solid backings in the other 6 tracks. The most remarkable thing about “Coping with the urban coyote” is that there isn’t a weak track to be seen. Even some of the best metal albums have the unnecessary ballad or the space-wasting filler. Unida has no need for such crutches. Being that It's referenced for both it’s stellar vocal performance and the quality of the rhythm section.

Southell's first breaths take place in 2008, when Met and Strona merge at a Brutal Truth's gig. Soon after, Kian, Naso and Mich join the band.
Mostly inspired by Down, the band starts to play a direct southern metal with massive sludge/stoner's influences.

Black Thai was formed in 2009 by friends Jim Healey (We're All Gonna Die) and Scotty Fuse (Cortez). After many drunken late night conversations about music, the two decided it would be a good idea to start a band without any expectations or pressure. Just for the pure fun of having a few beers and playing loud rock. A return to simpler times. The two enlisted bassist Cory Cocomozzi to handle the low end. Jeremy Hemond assumed control of the drum throne and Black Thai was born. Picture Corrosion Of Conformity (during Deliverance period) jammin' with Danzig but only Elvis stayed home.

Bandito is a hard-rock quintet hailing from Nijmegen, Holland. The band combines the Stoner-groove of Kyuss with the Hard-rock-punch of Down, while creaming it with a smooth layer of Atomic Bitchwax. Despite their short existence they have already played some major festivals like ‘Huntenpop’ and ‘de Affaire’. They’ve also won several band competitions.

"Planet Of Zeus were formed back in 2000,when Babis and Yog decided that they could not express themselves within the bands they had played til then. Two years later the band was eventually established as a trio with J.V. on the bass. The band started giving high-energy live performances, playing with several greek bands in Athens and eventually allover Greece. In the summer of 2004 they decided that the time had come to stop fooling around and record their first demo cd (LOOP 430). The second recording of the band took place almost one year after Loop 430. Two of the band's songs were included in the first two Spinalonga Records compilations "In the Junkyard vol.1 and 2". On July '06 Planet of Zeus finally started the recordings of their debut album which came to be "Eleven the Hard Way". At the beginning of year 2007 a new member came on board. Yog grabbed the guitar and Serapheim G. took Yog's place behind the drums. Eventually, "Eleven the Hard Way" was released worlwide on 21st of April 2008, by Casket Music/Copro Records (UK) .During all these years, Planet of Zeus have just been trying to enjoy themselves playing music and continue what bands like Motorhead, Black Sabbath, and Jimi Hendrix's Experience were doing in the past as well as mixing it with todays heavy sound and their own personal flavour. Excellent pure Stoner Rock from San Diego. Ride the Sun started in the summer of 2007. Lydell moved from Minnesota (Countach/Red Desert) to join the band 12 Gauge Reply which quickly disbanded after one gig. Lydell and Kip quickly formed (RTS). Greg Mason (Leather Nun) was the final missing link. With a few older tunes coupled with new material, RTS is well on its way carving out a heavy sound mixed with influences of old 70's rock, desert fuzz and doom. With the recent addition of Dominic replacing Greg and the addition of Dan Frick on guitars/vocals..... RTS expects everything to get even better. On a cold night in January of 2009, 5 guys assembled in a practice room in Syracuse, NY. The first night 2 songs were written and ELEPHANT MOUNTAIN was born. At the encouragement of lead guitarist, John Hanus, he reunited vocalist, Joe Altier and guitarist, Brian “Slider” Azzoto (both formerly of Brand New Sin). Slider and Joe had been discussing writing together in the months leading up to this, so they figured it was time. Along with Joe, Slider and John were drummer, Lewk Detor and bassist, Dave Hoyt the band spent all of 2009 writing, jamming and finding a “sound”. They began mixing all the elements of great classic rock and adding their own modern twist to it. ELEPHANT MOUNTAIN is plain and simple a ROCK N ROLL band. No frills, no b.s!! They are not trying to reinvent the wheel, they are just making good music. The band played a “secret show” in Dec of 2009 and it’s first official show on April 10, 2010. In the early part of 2010 they felt the band needed a fuller sound and added veteran B-3 player, Lou Segreti to the fold. After the first time jamming with Lou the band realized he was the missing piece in the “sound” of ELEPHANT MOUNTAIN. Just recently the band entered MOLETRAX STUDIOS in Syracuse with Jeff “THE MOLE” Moleski and recorded its debut album, “The Last Days Of Planet Earth”. The album will be released independently on Sept 17th. It truly showcases what the band has become in a year and where the future is headed. A fall release of the album is slated with a show to coincide with it as well. Look for the band to release the outing independently and to begin playing shows around the Northeast thru the end of 2010 and early 2011. The band is already writing songs for a follow up album and is hoping to squeeze out new music a few times a year. So stay tuned and SPREAD THE HERD!!

In mid 1998 the live music scene in Sydney, Australia sucked!! Rock bands were replaced by indie noodling and angst ridden grunge burnouts who would never admit to loving rock moves or monster lickage. The fools. It was around this time Troy Scerri, Charlie O'Neill and Dave Tomley began to assemble a band with a desire to play the kind of music they listened to at home, but found it impossible to find on the live circuit. They recruited the brutal Mark Mills and doom lord Jason Breitfuss and =DAREDEVIL= evolved. More like devolved with a starting point heavily influenced by The Stooges, Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy and Rose Tattoo. The band knew rock was alive and well elsewhere with bands like C.O.C, The Hellacopters and Spiritual Beggars providing more motivation to kick Sydney's sleepy head in.

II is the second studio album from Maylene and the Sons of Disaster. It was released on March 20, 2007, on Ferret Records. On February 6, 2007, the album was leaked onto P2P websites.
The album sold about 6,000 copies in the United States in its first week, earning them their first placement in the Billboard 200 at #156.
A music video was produced for "Dry the River" and found substantial airplay on MTV2's Headbangers Ball. It has the band performing in the shallow end of a creek and the surrounding forest at night. They are eventually subdued by apparent hunters and drug through the woods, as depicted on the album cover. Contrary to popular belief, Underoath drummer Aaron Gillespie does not appear in the video.
The song "Memories of the Grove" is featured in the video games Tony Hawk's Proving Ground and a downloadable track on Guitar Hero II.

Fireball Ministry - The Second Great Awakening (released '03)

Conceived in Cincinnati in the late 90's by Rota and Burton, the band moved to New York City before settling in Los Angeles. After several years appearing with various big name bands in the genre (Danzig, Anthrax, Motörhead, Slayer) but without a breakthrough in sales they have found their own sound and are fast gaining a wider following. The track "King" was selected by Bam Margera and appeared on his Viva La Bands compilation. The band teamed up with Bam's brother Jess Margera when they toured Europe with CKY in 2004.[1] In addition, the track "The Broken" was included in the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) video game WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2006 for the Sony PlayStation 2, further expanding the band's audience.

The band was formed in Los Angeles in 2001 by Philadelphia transplant Keith Gibbs (guitar, vox) and Detroit natives Rick Ferrante (drums) and Clayton Charles (bass). Upon Clayton’s departure in 2007, the guys recruited Chicagoan Jason Casanova (ex-Tummler, Volume) to join the fold. Drawing on influences from 70's metal, rock, and psychedelia, the band falls somewhere between an amalgamation of Black Sabbath, old Soundgarden, Deliverance-era Corrosion of Conformity, Mountain, and a bastardized version of Grand Funk Railroad. Their songwriting approach is clear; keep the focus on the hook.

The band’s newest album “III” was released on Small Stone Records in March 2010 and marked the beginning of a new chapter for the band. While this record continues to showcase their signature sound and technique, the production is bigger and the songwriting is more refined. Combining the simplicity of their Small Stone debut, “I” (released in 2004), with the melodic undercurrent of “II” (2006), they still manage to capture the raw essence that won them their moniker. The record also features a special guest appearance from Monster Magnet’s own Ed Mundell".

The Electric Sleep was recorded in St. John's in the summer of 1997. Recording Engineer Don Ellis helped the band capture the simple, powerful sound they'd been searching for. The result was an album one British reviewer deemed "the best Black Sabbath album in 25 years." Black Sabbath comparisons were nothing new for the band, but for every review filled with praise another came along that maintained they were little more than clones. The album's doomy title track could even be found on the web described as a lost Sabbath track. After a short tour of the U.K. and an invitation to play the Dynamo Open Air Festival in The Netherlands, the band headed back to the studio.

Simple Mind Condition is Trouble's seventh studio album. It was the band's first full-length studio release in twelve years, the longest gap between Trouble's studio albums to date. The album is dedicated to former drummer Barry Stern, who died in 2005.
Writing and recording sessions for the follow-up to Plastic Green Head lasted from 2002 to 2006, making it the longest time Trouble have ever spent making a record. Its release had delayed several times before officially coming to fruition in 2007. It was released on May 12, 2007 in Europe, but a North American release has never occurred despite reports that it would appear in February 2008.
A tentative title for the album was Seven, but the title was eventually scrapped.
To date, this is Trouble's last release with vocalist Eric Wagner and drummer Jeff Olson, who both left in 2008.

It was during this time that Strzempka and Steinman purchased a rural property in Pennsylvania and built "Slabby Road", the group's personal recording studio. The members of the group lived together on the farm in a type of "communal" relationship and began recording their second RCA record, From a Southern Space, produced by Alex Perialis (Anthrax, M.O.D., S.O.D.). Executives at RCA were not pleased with the direction that the group was going with this recording and decide to withdraw their support for its release.

The band reentered the studio to record their third RCA record Freeburden with producer Michael Beinhorn (Soundgarden, Ozzy Osbourne, Chili Peppers) and during recording, and the group were utilizing the talents of Chili Pepper and Pearl Jam drummer, Jack Irons. Once again their work is rejected by RCA. Def American impresario Rick Rubin began to make offers to the group to leave RCA and make records for his flourishing label. The group agreed and Rubin bought out the remainder of their contract with RCA.
